The educational system in many countries in Africa is less than ideal and many children learn under less than ideal conditions.

In many scenarios, the children sit on the floor and do not have walls in between the classrooms. The walls and roof are corrugated zinc sheets and they learn under the stifling heat. They do not have the necessary educational support structure – in terms of books, audio-visual materials etc. Definitely not the best of learning environments!

Sub-Saharan Africa is more heavily affected by HIV and AIDS than any other region of the world. An estimated 24.5 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2005 and approximately 2.7 million additional people were infected with HIV during that year.

In just the past year, the AIDS epidemic in Africa has claimed the lives of an estimated 2 million people in this region. More than twelve million children have been orphaned by AIDS: UNAIDS, '2006 Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic'

Many studies have confirmed that the use of computers can enhance the learning of children.  Unfortunately, thousands of schools in Africa do not have any computers.  This project will help to level the playing field, giving them access to better resources / facilities.

Your donation will contribute to closing the technology gap by providing a free computer suite / lab (25 to 40 computers) to schools in Africa.
